The Challenge of Printing Costs

The mathematical problem with printing cost is that there are both measurable and immeasurable costs. The measurable costs of printing costs include:

• Cost per page by device
• Cost of consumables i.e. paper, toner, staples (OEM or Vendor Brand)
• Cost of repair and/or annual maintenance contract
• Total print cost

The immeasurable costs of printing include:

• Cost of time required to print
• Cost of print device downtime
• Cost of mishaps (paper jams, misfeeds, misprints etc)

An organization goal should always be to incorporate systems, solutions and services that will lower measurable costs and eliminate immeasurable costs.
